He’s been dominating the sport of surf life saving for 19 years, became a legendary hero of ironman by the ripe young age of 25 and currently trains six hours a day, six days a week in his ‘day’ job. Reigning world iron man champion and winner of last year’s Coolangatta Gold, Zane Holmes was thus a fitting champion of choice to partner with makers of the World’s Finest Ginger - Queensland Company, Buderim Ginger. It was following Zane’s own positive personal experiences of ginger’s healing properties in October last year that saw him volunteer to lend his support and high profile to the Buderim Ginger brand. “The day after winning the Coolangatta Gold in 2006, my calves were extremely sore and damaged from the grueling 10km soft sand run,” Zane said. “When I woke up the morning after the event I couldn’t even get out of bed. In a panic I called my masseuse for advice, who recommended I soak for a hour in a warm bath with grated ginger,” he continued. “After the bath I was able to walk around which really amazed me. Now whenever I feel sore after training for or competing in ironman events, I have a ginger bath to help with the recovery process, he said. “I’ve always liked ginger in my food and drink for its energy and refreshment qualities, little did I know I’d be bathing in it too!” Buderim Ginger National Retail Marketing Manager, Mark Stanley said Zane’s ongoing sporting prowess and outstanding personal attributes were the key factors in their decision to appoint Zane as Buderim Ginger’s ambassador. “Zane Holmes is a Queensland born and bred elite athlete and one of the greatest surf lifesaving heroes this country has produced. He is dedicated to being the best in his field, and continually setting new goals for himself, yet he’s down to earth and focused on health and wellbeing and these are traits Buderim Ginger identifies with,” Mark said. Listed as an official icon by the National Trust of Queensland, Buderim Ginger represents an important part of the state’s history, winning a lasting place in Queensland’s cultural identity. The new partnership between Zane, nicknamed “Zapper” and Buderim Ginger, the original providers of real ginger taste beverages that put the “Zing into Everything” see the dual World Ironman Champion (2004 & 2006) become the public identity for Buderim Ginger, with his image appearing in a range of publicity efforts. Zane will also be appearing at the Ginger Flower festival to be held over the 2008 Australia Day long weekend at the Yandina Ginger Factory.
